# 研究内容：

Population balance modeling of bubble coalescence and breakup in OpenFOAM

# 背景资料：

Bubbly flows are commonly encountered in process and power industry. The key parameter bubble size varies temporarily and spatially due to complex interactions such as coalescence and breakup. Numerical simulation of bubble coalescence and breakup remains a challenging task. It requires not only a rigorous framework but also reliable phenomenological models for the calculation of coalescence and breakup rate. The department of computational fluid dynamics at HZDR has years-long experience in simulating poly-disperse bubbly flow and developing coalescence and breakup models. In addition, to avoid uncertainties and inconvenience brought by arbitrary adjustment of models or model constants, a unified set of closures has been defined as a baseline for further development and evaluation of models. It has been tested for a broad range of flow configurations flows where no transfer of heat and mass takes place between the phases. In addition, a new class called populationBalanceModel, which is contributed by the Institute of Fluid Dynamics, HZDR, has been published by the OpenFOAM foundation.

# 主要任务

• Literature survey on population balance methods and numerical solutions, recent experimental and theoretical study of bubble coalescence and breakup
• Master OpenFOAM and test the new populationBalanceModel class
• Simulating turbulent poly-disperse bubbly flows in columns or pipes in OpenFOAM using the HZDR baseline closure models
• Designing new experiments determining coalescence and breakup parameters such as collision rate, film drainage time, deformation and breakup time as well as number and size of daughters in various fluids
• Further development of the baseline coalescence and breakup models
• Analyse, present and document simulation results

• Dr. Liao的研究方向主要为多相计算流体力学，如气液分散、聚并和破碎、相变、群体平衡模型、蒸发冷凝等。其2009年和2010年有关破碎聚并的Review已经被引超过600次（Part 1Part 2）。Dr. Liao提出的baseline模型在近些年也受到诸多科研工作者以及工程师的大量关注，并在HZDR收到最大范围的推广。Dr. Liao也是ANSYS CFX中MUSIG模块的算法开发人员，OpenFOAM中的Class Method模块开发人员。目前也是Chemical Engineering Science, AIChE Journal, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, Nuclear Science and Technology, Nuclear Engineering and Technology等多家国际主流期刊的审稿人。

• 本次招聘对象为CSC公派博士（3-4年，需2018年6月份即将毕业的硕士生），也考虑CSC联合培养博士（1-2年，需在读博士生）。优先考虑年限较长的人员。主要工作为基于OpenFOAM进行气液聚并和破碎的计算模拟，相关模块采用我方HZDR贡献给OpenFOAM基金会的PBM-CM代码。主要目的为验证、提高相关算法以及植入并在高水平期刊上发表文章。

• 在科研的开展中，Dr. Liao为主要汇报人, Dr. Dongyue Li为次要汇报人。Dr. Liao为聚并和破碎以及PBM-CM领域世界知名专家，Dr. Li具有多年的OpenFOAM编程经验以及PBM-QBMM研究经验。Dr. Liao and Dr. Li的研究经验会帮助研究生早日完成研究成果并将成果发表至高水平期刊。

• 研究生的工作仅限于自己的课题，没有教学等其他任务。

• 亥姆霍兹研究所为德国三大研究所之一（类似我国的中科院），亥姆霍兹计算流体力学研究所位于德累斯顿（德国东部），CSC候选人可获得国家每个月税后1200欧元（约月9500人民币）的生活补助，足够在德累斯顿生活且有结余。
